Research Institute of Materials and Technologies (RI MT) was established in 2007 in accordance with the plan of strategic development of the University for solving complex scientific and engineering tasks through interdisciplinary polytechnic approach.

Areas of scientific activity:

Nanomaterials, functional materials, composite and hybrid materials, materials with special properties (electric, optic, magnetic, tribological, piezoelectric).

Main scientific research and experiments carried out:

  • Synthesis structure and properties of carbonic nanoparticles of tungsten dichalcogenides;
  • Synthesis structure and properties of carbonic nanomaterials (jointly with Aalto University)
  • Heatproof composite tungsten based materials (jointly with St.Petersburg State Institute of Technology(Technical University));
  • Nanocomposite lanthanum hexaboride based materials (jointly with the Institute of High-Molecular Compounds of the RAS);
  • Amorphous metals and alloys (jointly with FSUE Central Research Institute of Structural Materials “Prometey”)

Main scientific developments:

  • Nanoparticles production for metals, alloys, chalcogenides, carbides, production of carbonic nanomaterials (nanotubes and nanofibre) on the iron and copper matrix;
  • Production of dense composite materials using nanoparticles as a sintering promoter;
  • Production of nanocomposite materials using hexaboride lanthanum nanoparticles in the polymeric matrix

Possibilities for commercial use:

Equipment: development of semi-industrial methods for the nano-size materials production

Research results: antifrictional materials, magnetic screens, heat radiation protective aids, high-temperature equipment.
