Research Institute of Materials and Technologies (RI MT) was established in 2007 in accordance with the plan of strategic development of the University for solving complex scientific and engineering tasks through interdisciplinary polytechnic approach.

Scientific research and experiment carried out:

  • investigation of contact corrosion inclination in aluminum alloys and steel under different temperatures and pressures;
  • investigation of steels corrosion exposure under pressure in accordance with NACE TM 0177 (method À, B);
  • comparison tests of high-strength protective coatings on drill pipes, investigation of casing pipes tear
  • investigation of the grouting mortars corrosion effect on aluminum alloys
  • investigation of metallic materials for fatigue resistance in gas-saturated mineralized media under elevated temperatures

Technical parameters

Testing plant Cortest

Carrying out tests in accordance with the NACE TM standard 0177; 3 types of rings with a load range:

1. 0-100,000psi (9 pieces) testing the materials with σ0,2≤690MPa

2. 0-150,000psi (3 pieces) testing the materials with σ0,2≤1034MPa

3. 0-200,000psi (8 pieces) testing the materials with σ0,2≤1380MPa

Possibility for maintaining the low oxygen concentration in the test cells (up to 20ppb), possibility for any gaseous mixture medium aeration, maintaining the temperature of 0-90° Ñ

Potentiostat PS-35M

Carrying out electro-chemical tests within the ASTM 102 and ASTM 69 standards. Corrosion potentials measurements, polarized curve modeling by

potentiostatic and potentiodynamic methods, corrosion rate tests and others

ðÍ-meter, ionometer

Carrying out ðÍ medium surveys, measuring carbide, sulphide and cyanosulphide ions concentration, oxygen concentration

Wear test bench for drill and case pipes investigation

Possibility for testing the drill pipe wear rate while drilling.

Objects and testing parameters:

• drill pipes O 90 – 180 mm, length – up to 300 mm;

• pull force – up to 300 kg;

• case pipes O 218 – 300 mm, length up to 1000 mm;

• counterbody material (CM) – steel and concrete pipe;

• drill pipe sample rotation (SR) 0 – 150 turns per minute;

• rotation CM 0 – 40 turns per minute;

Shift of SR along CM – up to 5 m/hour.

Test bench for materials’ corrosion-fatigue properties investigation

Carrying out fatigue and corrosion-fatigue tests under cantilevered rotating sample bending in the reversal of stresses in various media:

- in the air under room temperature;

- in the corrosion liquid medium (with different chemical composition)

- under room and elevated temperature - up to 950Ñ in the thermostatted tank;

- in gas-saturated ( Í2S; ÑÎ2) mineral media under room temperature and elevated temperatures.

Possibilities for commercial use of the Center’s equipment: carrying out tests either for the equipment manufacturers or for the purchasers.
